There are many conditions that affect the health of your eyes and your vision. However, here for our introductory purposes to Eye Disease Management, we'll briefly outline the most common conditions with which you are most likely familiar.

Glaucoma is an eye disease where the eye pressure causes damage to the optic nerve in the back of the eye. This disease can result in progressive vision loss and eventually lead to blindness. Glaucoma is treated with pressure lowering eye drops.

Cataracts occur when the structure behind the pupil called the lens becomes cloudy with age. The cloudy lens causes blurred vision. Cataract surgery restores the vision.

Macular degeneration occurs when the lining inside the eye called the macula begins to change with age. Macular degeneration can result in central vision loss. Some forms of macular degeneration can be treated by injections of special medications into the eye.

Diabetes is a medical condition which causes high sugar levels in the blood. Uncontrolled diabetes can cause an inflammatory process in the back of the eye which leads to abnormal blood vessel growth. Diabetic retinopathy can result in progressive vision loss. Diabetic retinopathy is treated with laser surgery and eye injections.

PRE AND POST OPERATIVE LASER VISION CARE

Laser vision corrective surgery provides patients with an option for vision correction besides eyeglasses and contact lenses. Not everyone is a candidate for laser vision corrective surgery. A comprehensive pre-laser vision examination determines if surgery is right for you.
Dr. Frank Aquistapace is certified and skilled in all aspects of pre and post operative laser vision care.
